• Anake Goodall

    BOARD MEMBER & CO-FOUNDER

    Having been infected with the philanthropy bug from his father, Anake established Seed the Change | He Kākano Hāpai in 2017. Seed the Change is working to create a sustainable, equitable and joyous world. It currently supports a range of larger established and smaller early stage initiatives including Hep C Action Aotearoa, Drinkable Rivers, community-led education initiatives in Uganda and India, and the Hillary Institute of International Leadership. Anake sees his philanthropy as just one tool to make change in the world; alongside equity investment, contributions of time, and connecting with like-minded individuals. He is a Trustee of The Gift Trust and was previously a founder of the Makarewa Credit Union and Meridian Energy,, on the establishment board for the Environmental Protection Authority, chaired the Hillary Institute, and was the CEO of Te Rūnanga o Ngāi Tahu. He is also a Harkness Fellow.

  • Lani Evans

    CO-LEAD & CO-FOUNDER

    Lani is an experienced entrepreneur, philanthropic leader and community contributor. Currently on parental leave with her second child, Lani’s career has spanned non-profit and business leadership, governance and start-ups. She has been the Head of Te Rourou, Vodafone Aotearoa Foundation since 2016, leading the development of a long-term strategy based on systemic levers and place based change. She was the inaugural CEO of social enterprise Thankyou Payroll and served on the board for more than 8 years, co-founded Cheese Cartel and the Thankyou Charitable Trust and sits on the committee for the Peter McKenzie Project. Lani is a Winston Churchill Fellow, an Edmund Hillary Fellow, an honorary member of Philanthropy New Zealand, and is a member of the New Zealand Order of Merit. She is an advocate for generosity, strategic philanthropy and removing barriers to diversity in governance.

  • Rose Challies

    BOARD MEMBER

    For 20 years Rose worked in Europe addressing a range of complex social and environmental issues, working with governments, large funders, NGOs, not-for-profit organisations and businesses across multiple countries. She returned to Aotearoa New Zealand in 2019, became a NEXT Foundation Fellow and now runs the Terra Nova Foundation, a new force for environmental action and change catalyst for people and planet. Rose has implemented social and environmental change through development of national policy, laws and standards, cross-sector strategies and practice, large scale collaborations and the effective resourcing of these for both social and environmental issues. Areas of impact include environment, protection of children, equity, diversity, human rights, anti-doping, data protection, anti-human trafficking, community-owned business, strategic philanthropy and impact measurement.

  • Alanna Irving

    CO-LEAD & BOARD MEMBER

    Alanna has experience founding, running, and scaling non-profits and startups in Aotearoa and internationally, bringing a combination of expertise in software, organisational development, and impact strategy. She is especially interested in creative uses of legal, financial, and technical infrastructure to support grassroots community power and social justice impact. Alanna is co-organiser of Tauiwi Tautoko, an anti-racism capacity building intervention, and previously served as Executive Director of Open Collective Foundation, co-founded Enspiral, Loomio, and Cobudget, is an Edmund Hilary Fellow, and co-authored the book Better Work Together. Her ultimate dream is to make a utopian Star Trek future a lived reality for everyone.

    PROJECT MANAGER

    Claire joined Seed the Change | He Kākano Hāpai in 2017 and leads the day to day management and delivery of programmes. Her expertise makes her a human resource for strategic and annual planning, budgeting, funding applications and back-office functions. Faced with the significant planetary and societal challenges, it’s the innovative solutions and outcomes of those that Seed the Change | He Kākano Hāpai supports that fuel’s Claire’s passion for helping build a brighter, more equitable future for people and planet.
